Sacred Drumming

HEALING YOURSELF WITH THE SACRED DRUM

Drumming is as fundamental a form of human expression as speaking, and likely emerged long before humans ever developed the capability of using vocal organs as instruments of communication.

Drum is regarded as one of the oldest instruments in the history of humanity and its power and use for healing are universal, wide ranging and all embracing.

Drum therapy and group drumming have been proven to help reduce stress, increase the body’s own healing and wellbeing responses, form and strengthen bonds between individuals and crete a sense of oneness with one another and nature – a feeling that so many people crave in a world of isolation and loneliness. It is said that the physical and spiritual health benefits of drumming are as old as time itself.

Our Sacred Drumming training courses aim to provide students with the understanding, skills an confidence to use drum and rattle for self-healing as well as helping others in regaining their balance and healing their home and their environment. Many studies exist to prove the beneficial effects of the drum in healing and therapy.

Here are some reasons why sacred drumming is good for you:

  • Makes you happy!
Drumming releases endorphins, enkephalins and Alpha waves in the brain, which are associatred with general feelings of well-being and euphoria.
  • Induces deep relaxation
In one study, blood samples from participants in an hour-long drumming session revelaed a reversal in stress hormones.
  • Helps control pain
Drumming stimulates the production of endorphins and endogenous opiates, which are the body’s own morphine-like pain killers.
  • Boosts the immune system
Drumming increases natural T-cells, which help the body combat cancer as well as viruses and and other pathogens.
  • Creates a sense of connectedness
Drumming circles provide an opportunity for connecting with your own spirit at a deeper level while also connecting with other like-minded people.
  • Releases negative feelings
When held, negative emotions can form energy blockages. The physical stimulation of hitting the drums can help remove those blockages.
  • Puts you in the present moment
While drumming you are moving your awareness toward the flow of life. When you are flowing with the rhythm of life you cannot be caught up in your past or worry about your future.
  • Encourages personal transformation
Drumming stimulates creative expression. Drumming provides a means of exploring your inner self and expanding your consciousness beyond the mundane.
